Yesterday was a big day at the Krause house.
Pics:
From the previous post, you can see that we got some awesome pictures of our daughter in our inbox in the morning. She had her 2nd birthday March 1st, just before we found out that she is ours. So we decided to send her some belated birthday goodies: cake, camera, stuffed animal, & pics of us.
The ladies at the orphanage were kind enough to use the camera to take some pictures and send them back to us. (From what we've heard, rarely do they actually do this and then send the pictures back to the adoptive parents.) Hopefully it is a reflection of the kind of people involved in this orphanage. It is always so special to get new pictures. What an awesome surprise!
Looks like they dabbed some frosting on her face for us. They know that us crazy Americans like our kids to get all messy with birthday cake when they are little. And they are right. Nicely done.
Tacts:
After school, J had his first eye appointment. It was starting to become pretty evident to us that he was having a hard time seeing things at a distance. Watching the NCAA tournament games these past couple of weeks, he's been sitting on the floor about 4 feet in front of the HD TV. Not good. (I remember a few weeks ago I showed him the difference between the HD channels and the standard channels. He didn't seem impressed. I knew right then that something was wrong with the boy. Now I know that it's fixable. Whew.)
It turns out he's already blind as a bat at the age of 9. Nice genes. If he was driving age, he couldn't drive. I think he's 20/60 or something. He had to squint to see the top line, and even then I think he missed one of the letters. Not good. He didn't want glasses and the doctor said contacts are fine for kids his age, so we decided to go with the contacts.
We are going thru the painful training of learning how to put them in and take them out. He can take them out pretty easily, but putting them in is going to be a challenge. It's hard to get his little-kid eye open far enough. His ginormous eyelashes don't help either. Good times early in the morning.
He didn't seem too impressed when he walked outside leaving the office like I thought he would. But when he took them out last night, he was blinking and looking around like "Man, I can't see anything now!"
Cats:
A little background for this one. We have 2 cats. We've had Google for a little over a year. He was a stray that we took in. He's a big, black and white cat. This year for Valentine's Day, the boys and I adopted a little calico cat for T. Her name is Valentine. She's tiny compared to Google. They both go outside.
Well, Monday, we let V out in the morning and she never came back. Searches were conducted; flyers were posted; calls were heard all around the neighborhood. *crickets*
Now, the house 2 doors up from us is for sale. There were moving trucks there during the day on Monday to get all the stuff out of the house from the previous owner. (I'll need another whole post to explain that situation. Your welcome. This post is long enough already.) I mentioned this to T on Tuesday night and we got to thinking that maybe V got in one of the trucks or into the house. T couldn't sleep without going over to the house to check. No luck though.
So, the next day (yesterday), we came back from J's eye appointment and there was a realtor showing the house. We were outside in the culdesac with the kids and neighbors (it's finally warming up after a long long winter). The realtor comes out and approaches T with a puzzled look on her face.
"Do you know why there would be a cat in the house?"
T freaks out. Eyes pop right out of her head.
"THAT'S OUR CAT!"
Freaking. Out. So they rush over there and V is down in the basement in the storage room on the top shelf. She must've been too scared to jump down or something.
So there you have it. Three big events in one day. What a day. Our life is rarely this exciting. I think I kinda like it.
